Driving Directions:
Trailhead and parking area are on Bullard Hill Road in Francestown, NH. From Rt. 47, 1.0 mile north of Rt. 136 in the center of Francestown and 5.8 miles east of Rt. 31 in the center of Bennington, turn west onto Campbell Hill Road. Drive a quarter mile and look for the potentially unmarked Bullard Hill Road on your left. We recommend finding a place to park on the roadside here, but if one is unavailable, you can try to drive down this unmaintained this road a bit further to the official parking area as described below. About the Hike:
Just an ordinary small brook tumbling down over a drop in a secluded woodland setting just outside a small town - this is Brennan Falls. Just a short walk through a local parcel of conservation land allows for visitation of this cute destination. It is a perfectly suitable family outing for an hour or so if you're in the area and is nice to maintain as a favorite if you live nearby. Continue down the class 6 road on foot, staying right near the entrance to avoid a driveway. Walk 0.2 miles and turn left into the entrance to the official parking area just as the road starts to go downhill. Walk past a row of boulders and a kiosk and set off into the woods on a wide old road, gently descending. After the first 0.2 miles, the trail skirts the edge of an open wetland and soon reaches a fork. The proper trail takes the left fork, but go right for a moment to take a look across the peaceful scene of the open water around the outlet of the marsh. Continuing down the trail, you'll stay on the old roadway for another 0.2 miles before the trail diverges sharply right and drops to cross a wooden bridge over the stream draining the marsh and feeding the falls. The trail then follows the stream closely downhill for 0.3 miles through pleasant open woods to reach the waterfall itself. Walk down a steeper hillside and around the corner to get a look at the brook as it pours over a little ledge band and tumbles through a bed of rocks. If you make your visit early in the year, the flow will fan out impressively.
